Arcadia Joins Holland America in 2029: A Natural Fit for a New Chapter

By John Bell

For travelers who love Holland America Line, the appeal often comes down to a balance: ships with plenty to enjoy onboard, a comfortable atmosphere and itineraries that make exploring the world feel rewarding.

That is why we were pleased to hear that P&O Cruises’ Arcadia will join Holland America Line in 2029, bringing the fleet to 12 ships. At Cruise Specialists, we see this as a welcome addition that fits the style of cruising so many of our customers enjoy.

A Ship with Familiar Roots

There is a practical reason this move makes sense. Arcadia shares the Vista Class platform with Holland America’s Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam. Her addition will bring capacity for more than 2,000 guests.

For us, that shared foundation is an important part of the story. Holland America is adding a ship from a family it already knows well, with the opportunity to shape her next chapter around its own onboard experience.

It also reinforces something our customers consistently appreciate: a ship can offer a satisfying choice of dining, entertainment and places to relax while still feeling comfortable and easy to settle into.

Building on an Experience Our Customers Love

Cruise Specialists has a longstanding partnership with Holland America Line. We have helped many customers discover the line, return to favorite ships and embark on longer journeys that become highlights of their traveling lives.

What we hear from those travelers goes well beyond a list of onboard features. They appreciate feeling welcomed, having time to enjoy their surroundings and traveling with others who share their curiosity about the world.

For some, it is a familiar routine on a sea day. For others, it is the anticipation of a new port, a leisurely dinner or a conversation with friends they first met on a previous sailing.

We believe Arcadia offers an opportunity to extend that experience to more travelers while maintaining the ship size and atmosphere that have helped build such loyalty.

Looking Ahead with Holland America

We see Arcadia’s addition as an encouraging investment in the kind of cruising our customers value.

Growing through a ship that fits the existing fleet makes sense to us. It gives Holland America room to welcome more guests and consider additional itinerary opportunities while building on an established strength.

Her future deployment has not yet been announced, so it is too early to say where she will sail. Still, the possibility of more choice is welcome news for travelers who enjoy exploring with Holland America.

For our customers, the most interesting part will be how that opportunity takes shape: where the ship goes, what is introduced onboard and how she contributes to the broader fleet.

What Happens Next?

Arcadia is scheduled to complete her P&O Cruises farewell season on August 21, 2029, before transferring to Holland America later that year. Further details about her transformation and future itineraries will follow.

At Cruise Specialists, we will be watching those developments with interest. We think this is a promising next chapter for a ship with a strong connection to Holland America’s existing fleet—and another reason to look forward to what the line has ahead.

Whether you are considering your first Holland America cruise or planning your next voyage with a longtime favorite, our cruise consultants are here to answer questions and help you start planning.

Explora Journeys Enters the River Cruising Market

Just a few years ago, we introduced our clients to a new cruise line. One that promised an entirely new way to explore, combining the freedom of the open seas with the understated elegance and refinement of European hospitality. They call it an Ocean State of Mind.

Back Aboard Crystal Symphony: Plenty to Love

I’ve sailed with Crystal several times, and I love the experience. So when Crystal Symphony recently visited San Francisco, I was happy to get back on board for a ship tour and see the latest updates. She looked beautiful. The ship feels elegant, comfortable and wonderfully relaxing. The food was excellent, and the staff was attentive—just what I’ve come to appreciate about Crystal over the years.
