Why Regent's New Solara Sports Deck is a Big Deal for Luxury Cruisers

By Lisa Vongphachanh

When Regent Seven Seas Cruises recently unveiled details about the new Solara Sports Deck aboard Seven Seas Prestige, what caught our attention was not the courts, but the way Regent plans to seamlessly integrate the area with the rest of the ship.

For years, cruise ship sports courts were often tucked away in utilitarian corners of the ship. They served a purpose but would not be considered visually pleasing – especially since they were typically full sun surrounded by enormous poles with thick nets.

Regent has taken a different approach with Seven Seas Prestige. Perched atop Deck 14, the Solara Sports Deck will be a vibrant open-air haven, designed with the same attention to aesthetics and comfort as the ship's lounges, suites and specialty restaurants. The new venue will not feel out of place on the ultra-luxury Seven Seas Prestige.

What Regent appears to have done exceptionally well is to integrate these activities without compromising the elegant atmosphere guests expect. Regent’s plans include beautiful timbers around the courts, inviting shaded lounge areas, with touches such as soft fabric seating, fresh landscaping throughout, and unobstructed ocean views. The area will function as much as a scenic observation and relaxation space as it will be an activity venue. Even if you never pick up a paddle or putter, the deck invites you to enjoy ocean views, watch the sunset or simply soak up the joy of ultra-luxury ocean travel. Guests on Seven Seas Prestige will appreciate having attractive wellness activities in a venue that fits naturally into their day.

While pickleball, padel, shuffleboard and mini-golf will be popular among guests, another feature on the Solara Sports deck that we're excited about is the dedicated sunrise and sunset yoga area.

One of the greatest luxuries on any cruise is access to uninterrupted ocean views. Imagine beginning your morning with gentle stretching as the sun rises over the Mediterranean or ending a sea day with yoga while the Caribbean horizon glows at sunset.

Luxury cruising today is increasingly about shared experiences. Whether it's joining a friendly tournament, watching a casual match or gathering for a cocktail, these spaces encourage connecting through shared experiences on board. And for solo travelers, the Solara Sports Deck is likely to become one of the most popular gathering spots on board to meet other travelers.

It's clear that Regent recognizes that today's luxury travelers want options. Some guests will start the day with yoga. Others will sip coffee while watching the sunrise. Some will play pickleball. Others will head directly to the pool with a book and a glass of champagne.

The beauty of Seven Seas Prestige is that it is designed to accommodate all of those experiences without sacrificing the sophisticated atmosphere Regent guests expect.

Back Aboard Crystal Symphony: Plenty to Love

I’ve sailed with Crystal several times, and I love the experience. So when Crystal Symphony recently visited San Francisco, I was happy to get back on board for a ship tour and see the latest updates. She looked beautiful. The ship feels elegant, comfortable and wonderfully relaxing. The food was excellent, and the staff was attentive—just what I’ve come to appreciate about Crystal over the years.
