Introducing SS Emilie A Masterpiece on the Danube

By Lisa Vongphachanh

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has announced the upcoming debut of the S.S. Emilie, the newest addition to their award-winning Super Ship™ fleet, setting sail on the iconic Danube River in 2026. Inspired by the brilliance of Viennese painter Gustav Klimt and named after his beloved muse, Emilie Flöge, the ship is a celebration of art, elegance, and innovation.

The Danube River is a journey through history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. With the S.S. Emilie, guests will experience this legendary waterway in unparalleled comfort and style, surrounded by design elements that pay homage to Vienna’s artistic heritage.

A Design Inspired by Art Nouveau

Every detail aboard the S.S. Emilie reflects Klimt’s signature style—dramatic hues, shimmering gold accents, and flowing Art Nouveau elements. From the moment guests step onboard, they’ll be immersed in a world of luxury and artistry. The ship’s boutique design features:

  • High-gloss walnut veneer with decorative frames
  • Marble floors and tabletops
  • Oak herringbone parquet
  • Glass mosaic walls and beveled mirrors
  • Silk curtains, mohair and velvet upholstery
  • Custom-made carpets and stained-glass doors

As a finishing touch, specially commissioned artworks inspired by Klimt will adorn the public spaces, creating an atmosphere that feels like stepping into a living gallery.

True to Uniworld’s reputation, the S.S. Emilie is a showcase of fine fabrics, intricate trimmings, and luxurious details. Every corner of the ship is upholstered and adorned with tassels, cords, and fringes—hallmarks of our boutique style.

Luxurious Accommodations

With a capacity of just 154 guests and 57 dedicated staff, the S.S. Emilie offers an intimate and personalized cruising experience. Stateroom options include:

  • Grand Suites (412 sq ft) – 2 available
  • Suites (286 sq ft) – 8 available
  • Deluxe French Balcony (194 sq ft) – 20 available

Virgin Voyages Turned Our Friends Into Sailors

If you’re curious about Virgin Voyages—or even cruising in general—there may be no better introduction than a week aboard the Resilient Lady. My husband and I recently sailed with a mixed group of Virgin veterans and first time cruisers, and every single one of us walked away completely impressed.
