Virgin Voyages Turned Our Friends Into Sailors

By Lisa Vongphachanh

February 21–28, 2026 | Roundtrip Miami | Ocho Rios • George Town • The Beach Club at Bimini

If you’re curious about Virgin Voyages—or even cruising in general—there may be no better introduction than a week aboard the Resilient Lady. My husband and I recently sailed with a mixed group of Virgin veterans and first-time cruisers, and every single one of us walked away completely impressed.

Whether you're drawn to elevated dining, intuitive technology, grown-up fun, quiet relaxation, or curated experiences ashore, this cruise line truly has something for everyone. And as your team at Cruise Specialists, we’re here to help you plan it effortlessly.

Why Virgin Voyages Works So Well for First-Time Cruisers

Virgin Voyages has intentionally designed its experience to be uncomplicated, flexible, and refreshingly modern. 50% of our group had never cruised before, and they repeatedly told us how intuitive the ship felt, from the app-based check-in to the bracelet tapping system used onboard and at The Beach Club in Bimini.

There are no buffets, no main dining rooms, and no upcharges for specialty dining. Just more than 20 eateries, all included, with menus developed by Michelin-starred chefs. Even after midnight, you can still find amazing options— baked to order pizza at The Pizza Place, and several options in The Galley including breakfast favorites available 24/7.

Virgin gives sailors the freedom to dine, explore, and play however they want, with no pressure or upselling. It’s cruising reinvented.

Smooth Embarkation

Our Virgin Voyages cruise sailed from Virgin’s dedicated Miami terminal, and the experience feels stylish from the moment you arrive.

With our Splash of Romance package, we enjoyed priority boarding, entering the ship at 1:45 p.m. via a special priority lane. While Rockstars use a separate entrance, we still boarded right alongside them and were able to immediately secure our spa times and event reservations using the free onboard Wi-Fi. After booking our events, we made our way to the Galley for lunch before venturing to our cabins to find our luggage delivered and ample space to unpack our bags and get settled. Our new to cruising friends were blown away with their Sea Terraces – loving the views of Miami from their hammocks. My accesible Sea View cabin offered ample space and a nice sitting nook under the window.

The Beach Club at Bimini

This private beach club is a standout. The included lunch was far superior to typical cruise-line beach buffets, the drinks were easy to order with just a tap of your bracelet, and the atmosphere felt upscale yet relaxed. We spent our day between the pool party, the beach, and fish spotting in the ocean. The Beach Club at Bimini is included in most Miami sailings, so you will have plenty of opportunities to visit.

Splash of Romance: The Surprise-&-Delight Package That Was Worth Every Penny

Our whole group purchased the Splash of Romance package, and it became a highlight of the week. At $250 per couple and capped at only 90 cabins, it felt intimate and special, something we highly recommend booking early.

What it included for each couple:

  • Priority early embarkation
  • Daily pressed juices
  • “Shake for Champagne” delivery
  • Chocolates in your cabin
  • 3 hours in the spa
  • Exclusive Sail Away cocktail hour on The Perch

We used our Shake for Champagne on different days and shared the bottle each time. Virgin’s crew delivered it where we were sitting including:

  • At Loose Cannon before music trivia
  • At On the Rocks during live acoustic music
  • Before Fancy Night photos

The exclusive sunset cocktail event in George Town was unforgettable. The Happenings Crew chatted with each couple, and a magician roamed around snapping Polaroids. He even surprised a couple in our group with a secret magic show hidden in the crew quarters—complete with clues left in their cabin and a skull-masked guide waiting by the elevators!

Dining: A Culinary Journey Included in Your Fare

We pre-booked all restaurants through the app and enjoyed a fantastic rotation:
Test Kitchen • Gunbae • Pink Agave • Razzle Dazzle • The Wake • Extra Virgin

We also loved brunch at The Wake and Razzle Dazzle, casual bites from The Galley like fresh tacos, savory ramen, bao buns from the Sun Club café, and Mediterranean small plates at The Dock during Opa hour. Every eatery has its own personality, and because dining is included, there’s no hesitation to try something new.

Entertainment, Parties & Relaxation

Virgin excels at creating events that feel spontaneous, original, and genuinely fun.

We enjoyed:

  • Scarlet Night
  • We Fancy Party
  • Klub Rubiks 80s Party
  • Live music
  • Games, dodgeball, VHS workout
  • Trivia and social events

Scarlet Night

Our group of eight sometimes did everything together—dinners, parties, spa time—and other times split into smaller groups. Virgin made both easy.

Redemption Spa

Our 3-hour spa experience was serene and almost private thanks to Virgin’s capped capacity. Hot tubs, cold plunge pools, a mud room, sauna, salt room—perfectly quiet and rejuvenating.

A Special Birthday Surprise

On our last full day, we used our bar tab to buy a celebratory round for my friend’s birthday. Virgin makes spontaneous gifting drinks incredibly simple, something not offered by most cruise lines.

Even better—they decorated her cabin with balloons and a birthday banner without us even requesting it.

Why We Recommend Virgin Voyages for New Cruisers

Based on the first-timers in our group, here’s what makes Virgin exceptionally welcoming:

  • No dress codes, no assigned dining, no forced formalities
  • Included specialty dining eliminates confusion and upcharges
  • A simple wearable bracelet replaces keycards
  • The app is intuitive for booking shows, dining, and activities
  • Bar tab flexibility makes sharing easy and is the answer when only one partner drinks alcoholic beverages.
  • Adults-only atmosphere creates a relaxed, elevated vibe
  • Events range from high-energy to serene, so everyone finds their perfect pace

And for those who already cruise often, Virgin offers something truly refreshingly different from typical cruise experiences.
