Oceania Cruises Announces New Adults Only Experience

By Lisa Vongphachanh

Oceania Cruises, long celebrated for its refined ambiance, culinary excellence and destination-immersive itineraries, has announced a significant evolution in its guest experience. On January 7, 2026, the luxury cruise line began transitioning to an adults-only policy, welcoming exclusively guests 18 and older for all new reservations.

This change marks a new chapter in Oceania’s focus on serenity, sophistication, and meaningful connection at sea—key elements that loyal guests repeatedly identify as defining features of the brand.

A More Tranquil Voyage Ahead

According to Oceania Cruises, the decision stemmed from extensive feedback from repeat guests, new-to-brand travelers, and travel partners. Across the board, mature and affluent travelers expressed a desire for:

  • A calmer, quieter onboard atmosphere
  • An unhurried pace that complements destination-rich itineraries
  • A like-minded community of fellow travelers who share a love of culture, cuisine, and discovery

Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, emphasized this commitment to tranquility, noting that guests continually cite the serene onboard environment as a primary reason for returning. With this adults-only transition, the brand aims to elevate that already-beloved atmosphere even further.

What About Existing Reservations?

Oceania Cruises is honoring all reservations made prior to January 7, 2026, that include guests under 18. Those family travelers can enjoy their voyages as planned—ensuring a smooth and respectful transition for everyone.

The Oceania Promise Continues

While the onboard experience becomes adults-only, Oceania’s philosophy remains the same: Your World. Your Way.® Guests can expect:

  • The Finest Cuisine at Sea®
  • Itineraries spanning more than 600 ports across 100+ countries
  • Designer-inspired ships crafted for comfort and connection

With new Sonata Class ships scheduled to debut from 2027 onward, Oceania continues to expand its future with innovation and elegance.

Postcards From A Regent World Cruise: Richards Bay, South Africa

The 1985 song lyrics by Gayla Peeve, “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, Only a hippopotamus will do…” came to mind as my husband Humberto and I looked over the tour offerings for Richards Bay, a major port in the heart of the Zululand region of Kwa-Zulu-Natal in South Africa during our 2026 Regent Seven Seas Mariner world cruise. When we saw the description for the St. Lucia Wetlands Nature Reserve tour saying the two-hour boat tour frequently encounters crocodiles and hippos, we did not hesitate and signed up.
