Explora Journeys First World Journey

By John Bell

I spend a lot of time looking at world cruises. It’s part of what we do every day at Cruise Specialists, and it gives me a pretty clear sense of how differently each voyage is designed.

What immediately caught my attention about the Explora Journeys 2029 World Journey is the route itself. Most world cruises begin and end in the U.S. This one doesn’t. It starts in Dubai, which completely changes the feel of the journey from day one and opens the door to a truly global flow.

From there, the itinerary spans 29 countries and 63 destinations, crossing the Middle East, Asia, the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Seeing that much of the world with one reservation, one packing, and one unpacking is incredibly compelling. You’re not managing logistics, you’re simply traveling. And if you want to keep your voyage down to one international flight, you can disembark in Miami or New York.

What elevates this experience even further is how Explora Journeys approaches luxury. This is a brand built from the ground up with space, comfort, and modern living in mind. Nearly every suite is ocean-front with a private terrace, the public spaces are calm and beautifully designed, and the overall feel is relaxed rather than formal. It’s luxury that feels natural and easy, especially over a journey of this length.

That’s what makes this world cruise so appealing. You spend your days exploring extraordinary destinations—historic cities, far-flung ports, cultures that feel entirely different from one another—and every evening you return to the same beautifully familiar space. Your suite, your favorite restaurant, your morning routine all stay consistent, even as the world changes outside your window.

Over the course of months at sea, that sense of continuity matters. Explora Journeys has clearly designed this voyage for people who plan to truly live on board, not just pass through. It allows you to experience the world deeply while enjoying one of the most luxurious ships sailing today as your home base every night.

There’s something uniquely satisfying about traveling this way. No constant repacking. No airports. No hotel hopping. Just the freedom to explore the world by day and return “home” to the ship each evening.

Thinking About the Explora Journeys 2029 World Cruise?

A world cruise is a big decision, and the planning behind it matters just as much as the voyage itself, selection, timing, logistics, and making sure it truly fits how you like to travel.

That’s where we come in.

Postcards From A Regent World Cruise: Richards Bay, South Africa

The 1985 song lyrics by Gayla Peeve, “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, Only a hippopotamus will do…” came to mind as my husband Humberto and I looked over the tour offerings for Richards Bay, a major port in the heart of the Zululand region of Kwa-Zulu-Natal in South Africa during our 2026 Regent Seven Seas Mariner world cruise. When we saw the description for the St. Lucia Wetlands Nature Reserve tour saying the two-hour boat tour frequently encounters crocodiles and hippos, we did not hesitate and signed up.
