The Benefits of Travel Insurance

Justin Gibson

Travel is more than just a simple diversion—it’s an investment that enriches your life. And like any other investment, such as a house or car, you should have your travel plans insured, particularly when embarking on a world cruise or grand voyage.

The long, extensive and we hope life-changing journeys need to be covered for a variety of reasons!

Consultant Michelle Boots books many first time world cruisers each year and here are a few of the reasons she recommends they all invest in travel insurance:

Life happens: It’s to protect themselves AND their vacation plans when they have to cancel due to the “unexpected”.  This comes in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: pre-existing medical conditions,  trip cancellation and interruption, emergency medical evacuation and services, airline delays, etc.

Medical coverage: Many personal medical insurance companies do not include coverage when travelling outside the US.  Travel Insurance covers you from the day after the insurance is purchased until the day you return home.

Peace of mind: Worldwide Concierge/Travel Assistance provided from anywhere in the world is a pretty big thing to cross of your potential concerns list.  Not only are you covered, but you can quickly get assistance!

What does travel insurance cover?

Another tip Michelle provided was to ensure you get “Primary” coverage and while all plans differ here are the highlights of what you should expect to be covered:

  • you and your family in case you get sick or become injured before the trip
  • Medical and hospital expenses if something occurs during the trip, which can add up quickly in foreign destinations
  • Emergency evacuation to a more-suitable hospital if needed
  • Expense coverage if your initial flight, train, bus is delayed
  • Expense coverage in some personal emergency situations
  • Even help when your luggage is stolen or pocket is picked

Of course you need to always carry our policy with you and go over all the details with your agent before setting sail to ensure you know how to utilize it and what is covered.

Michelle or any of our consultants will gladly go over all the options with you the next time you book your trip of a lifetime!
