Unleash Your Inner Explorer: Overland Adventures with Zegrahm

Justin Gibson

If there’s an explorer in you that’s longing to see unspoiled parts of the world and places where few others have been, there’s a travel provider that can help you do that, either by land or by sea.

Zegrahm Expeditions provides adventurous cruises and land-based adventures, priding itself on innovative itineraries, outstanding service, all-inclusive pricing, and authentic cultural experiences. Their formula works, as more than 70% of their guests return for more Zegrahm experiences.

It’s All About the Destination

Expedition travel is quite different from mainstream cruises and tours, where the focus is often split between the destinations and the amenities of your cruise ship or land accommodations. Expeditions are all about the destination and how you can best experience a place that’s far – sometimes, very far – off the beaten path.

However, expedition travel does not mean that you must sacrifice comfort or attentive service. Zegrahm delivers all of that while feeding your adventurous soul.

A World of Ocean-Going Itineraries

Adventure can be found all around the world, and Zeghram’s selection of cruise itineraries includes dozens of destinations in Africa, Antarctica and the Arctic, Asia, India, Australia, Central and South America and Europe.

Zegrahm uses a variety of small ships, all carrying less than 200 passengers – some have room for less than 20. Each ship is customized for a specific destination: for example, some have reinforced hulls for the icy polar regions, some are equipped for diving in the Galapagos, and some feature observation decks for whale and dolphin watching.

A Closer Look at Overland Adventures

Zeghram’s offerings are not limited to ocean cruising – the travel provider’s Overland Adventures translates its adventurous approach from water to land, offering immersive experiences in fabulous destinations.

Zegrahm’s land-based itineraries use a variety of travel types, depending on the location and terrain. A single itinerary can easily involve a combination of airplane, river boat, 4×4 vehicle, train, motor coach and van travel. Accommodations may include world-class hotels, local inns, jungle lodges, safari camps or nomadic tents.

Like its cruises, Zegrahm’s Overland Adventure itineraries vary from one year to the next, but are always exciting. For example, a past season included a 12-day itinerary in Botswana, Africa, at the beginning of the dry season in May. That’s when big groups of animals – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinoceros and more – gather around watering holes. The opportunities to see and photograph these magnificent animals was spectacular! Plus, guests stay in comfortable camps in some of Botswana’s most remote areas for a true experience of African wilderness.

An 18-day itinerary in the Tibetan Himalayas will dazzle guests with views of the majestic mountain peaks and deep valleys. If you can tear your eyes away from that, you can also experience Tibetan cultural traditions in Dharamsala; get close to Tibetan Buddhist architecture in Ladakh; and talk with monks at Lamayuru Monastery.

A Middle East immersion is available via a 15-day itinerary that will take you all around Iran on a luxurious train. The itinerary includes places rarely seen by visitors from the west, including seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Chogha Zanbil, the remains of an ancient ziggurat (a step pyramid, once part of a temple complex).

About the Field Leaders

Each Overland Adventure (and each Zegrahm cruise) is guided by one or more of Zegrahm’s experienced field leaders. They are experts in the flora, fauna, history and culture of the destination: you may be accompanied by a naturalist, marine biologist, geologist, historian, archaeologist or anthropologist. Many of the field leaders are published authors and photographers, and they all love sharing their knowledge with guests.

Everything You Need is Included

Like Zegrahm’s cruises, its Overland Adventures are all-inclusive. The base price includes all accommodations and transportation during the adventure (although airfare to and from is separate), excursions, gratuities, dining, entrance fees and transfers. The price even includes insurance for any medical expenses or emergency evacuation needs (that’s a rare occurrence – the coverage isn’t meant to alarm you, but to provide peace of mind), plus gift certificates you can use to purchase recommended gear for your adventure.

So, don’t ignore the part of you that’s seeking travel adventure. Talk with Cruise Specialists about expedition travel, whether by land or by sea.
