Uniworld Recognized For Culinary Offerings

Ralph Grizzle

More good news coming out of Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection headquarters this week: the line recently announced it has been honoured with the Reader’s Choice Award for Best “Culinary Cruise Line” in the 2014 SAVEUR Culinary Travel Awards.

Chosen by the magazine’s 1.6-million readership comprised of food and travel enthusiasts, the SAVEUR Culinary Travel Awards recognize outstanding contributions to culinary aspects of the travel experience.

“We take great pride in giving our guests a scenic ‘tasting menu’ of Europe, and it’s wonderful to be recognized for this by SAVEUR readers. We are extremely honored,” said Guy Young, President of Uniworld. “All of our European itineraries include opportunities to explore centuries-old culinary traditions, including hands-on cooking experiences and private wine tastings. And of course, fantastic food and wine onboard.”

Uniworld has always placed a high emphasis on the culinary aspect of their voyages, both onboard and ashore. Select shore excursions highlight local artisans and culinary experts, and the line’s own chefs frequently go ashore in Uniworld’s ports of call to source locally-grown produce and acquire regional ingredients. The line’s sommeliers also get into the local scene by selecting vintages from some of Europe’s best grape-growing regions. In keeping with Uniworld’s All-Inclusive policy, all onboard beverages are provided free of charge.

Uniworld also seeks to engage their guests – even those who may not necessarily consider themselves “foodies” at home.

“Our guests can make their own pasta in Italy, sample foods made with saffron grown along the Danube, and watch cheese being made in the Netherlands,” said Young. “Eating and drinking as the locals do, there’s simply no better way to discover the true heart and soul of another culture.”
