Norway’s Midnight Sun Aboard Regent Seven Seas

Special Guest Reporter

Norway was the dream, Regent made the dream come true. For over fifteen years I have wanted to return to Norway. Having been completely enchanted on prior visits by the midnight sun and the stunning beauty of Norway’s mountains, valleys, lakes, fjords waterfalls and snow-capped mountains, I always hoped that I would return one day.

As sometimes happens, if we keep wishing and begin taking a few steps, our visions become reality.

I’m happy to say that I visited Norway this past summer and was again enchanted.

I was sailing on a 12-night cruise aboard the Regent Seven Seas Voyager. If there was a way to make my visit to Norway even better than I had hoped for, being aboard the Voyager was the way to do it. Taking us into majestic fjords, traveling above the Arctic Circle, offering breathtaking complimentary shore excursions, the Voyager, carrying just 700 passengers, was both elegant and comfortable. The relaxed dress code, choice of dining venues and special on-board activities made coming home from our day’s adventures a welcome respite.

The Voyager’s all inclusive policy, relaxed dress code, open-seating dining and choice of dining venues melded to make each day carefree and relaxing. Days at sea were filled with a choice of activities and evenings provided a combination of lively shows and   classical music.

Regent’s complimentary shore excursions ranged from scenic tours on buses and trains to outings for the more adventurous travelers. There were challenging hikes, kayaking in the Geirangerfjord and an excursion in Honningsvag that included getting into a “drysuit,” boarding a small local boat and going crab fishing. (Once caught, the crabs provided a feast for the fishermen.) The also visited the Artico Ice Bar with walls, seats and tables all made from ice.

As we continued north above the Arctic Circle we marveled at the “white nights” of the midnight sun. From the observation lounge we watched the sun pretend to set and then rise again, never coming close to the horizon. Traveling south a few days later, away from the white nights, we were treated to an amazing night rainbow. What an unbelievable experience.

Would I visit northern Europe again? Without a doubt. Would I choose Regent Again? Absolutely.
