Cruising Indonesia On Silver Shadow: Singapore From My Suite

This morning, Silver Shadow docked in the fabled city of Singapore. With my shore excursion Evening Trishaw Experience scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., I spent much of my last day on the ship preparing for my 5:45 a.m. transfer to the airport. My butler Roland offered to pack my luggage for me, but he has done enough for me on this voyage, and my hope is that Roland will take a little time off to enjoy a night out in Singapore before tomorrow’s turnaround when the ship is made ready for new passengers (and those who are cruising back-to-back on their second, third or fourth voyages in a row).

I enjoyed breakfast in La Terrazza (buckwheat pancakes with blueberries), lunch at the Pool Grill (teriyaki salmon) and dinner at the same venue, which had been transformed into “The Grill.” With the Singapore skyline as a backdrop, I grilled my own filet mignon on a hot rock, an enjoyable dining experience that I repeated on a few nights of this voyage. Silver Shadow’s dining experiences are presented in detail in my Silver Shadow review.

It never fails to amaze me as to how much guests and crew bond with one another on a voyage that spans less than two weeks. It’s sad to be leaving the ship and the many people I have met, crew and guests. We’ve all exchanged cards, promised “Friend Requests” on Facebook and said our final farewells with, “If you’re ever in … be sure to let us know.”

Tomorrow, I’ll be recapping the voyage. For now, I thought I would take you for a tour of my home for the past 11 days, Grand Suite 601, situated forward, starboard, on deck 6. The largest suite on Silver Shadow (and sister Silver Whisper), Grand Suite 601 measures 1,090 square feet (101 square meters), with a huge living room and the largest bedroom on the ship.

Guests residing in the Grand Suite not only enjoy palatial living but also a number of perks, including free internet and satellite phone time; laundry, dry cleaning and pressing; dinner for two at Le Champagne (a $60 value) and more. I particularly enjoyed the dining experiences in my suite, served with the same elegance that you’d expect in the dining room — table cloth, fine cutlery, porcelain and glassware, and fine wines included.

Below, you’ll find a series of photos that depict a typical day in the largest suite on the ship, or as I liked referring to it over the past 11 days, “Home, Sweet Home.”
