Celebrity Edge Review — Christening and Inaugural Cruise

Bridgett Quinn

My name is Bridgett Quinn Webber and I am a Cruise Consultant with Cruise Specialists. I have thrived in the cruise industry for more than 15 years. So, this might be surprising to hear, but I’ve experienced the comfort of a Celebrity cruise only once before this trip, on the Celebrity Mercury. You can imagine my delight when I boarded the Celebrity Edge to witness the christening and enjoy the ship’s inaugural cruise. Needless to say, my excitement and expectations were high for this event.

I stayed in the Infinite Veranda, a concierge class balcony cabin, featuring a private verandah with amazing views of the sea. Yet, the major highlight of my stateroom was the accompanying team dedicated to guest service. As a concierge class guest, I enjoyed Priority Check-in at the pier to start my adventure on the newest member of Celebrity’s fleet. For concierge class guests, the guest-to-staff ratio is nearly 2:1, ensuring a smooth voyage and personal comfort.

Exceptional Service

The impeccable service was prevalent throughout the ship. My stateroom stayed immaculate, in no small part from the fast and efficient housekeeping service provided twice a day. Our cabin stewardess was very efficient and eager to assist whenever we needed help, and the stewards in the dining room were unobtrusive, efficient and precise with our orders—every time! Each member of the onboard staff always addressed us with a smile and genuine hospitality for every order.

Personal Favorites

We only had one day at sea during the inaugural voyage, so I spent much of that time exploring the many features of the Edge. I toured other cabins and all of the public spaces to get a feel for the overall amenities and accommodations for my clients. Here are my top four favorite things on this beautiful ship:

  1. Magic Carpet for Tendering
  2. Infinite Verandah
  3. Retreat Pool and Sundeck
  4. Cosmopolitan Restaurant

Magic Carpet for Tendering

Many will fall in love with the cuisine at the Magic Carpet. This open-air restaurant has an easygoing bistro vibe while it simultaneously serves up mouth-wateringly delicious seafood dishes. However, I loved Magic Carpet for its tendering process. The smaller boats that allow passengers transportation to shore, tenders, moved flawlessly at this spot, providing quick access to terra firma after a long day at sea.

Infinite Verandah

For a true suite transformation, opt for the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda. In your well-designed living space, which is 23% larger than Solstice Class veranda staterooms, you can expand the living space at the touch of a button. The sliding wall compartment opens to the veranda, providing more room for your enjoyment. Let the fresh sea breeze fill your room for a refreshing way to start your morning.

Retreat Pool and Sundeck

The Resort Deck was my absolute favorite place on the ship to relax. In addition to the inviting pool, the Resort Deck features a variety of art installations in the poolside gallery. Guests can also unwind in the two-story hot tubs or in the cabanas overlooking the water.

Cosmopolitan Restaurant

As far as my favorite dining venue, the Cosmopolitan Restaurant stands out for its trendy atmosphere and selection of wines. The interior was decorated beautifully, and an entire wall was dedicated to housing available bottles of wines. For a moment, I thought I was transported to a chic restaurant in New York or Los Angeles before I remembered I was still experiencing everything the Edge has to offer.

Best Moment

Undoubtedly, my overall favorite moment aboard the Edge was hearing the ship’s godmother, Nobel Prize winner and political activist Malala Yousafzai, give the main speech at the christening. It was truly a humbling and tender experience.

Insider Tips

First and foremost, download the Celebrity app on your phone. You’ll be able to board the Edge much more quickly if you use the app to check in to your cruise. It’s also perfect for booking shore excursions and specialty dining reservations.

There were a few moments that I recommend for future guests on the ship. In the mornings, go to the Rooftop Garden. The sunrise is unparalleled in its beauty and is the perfect way to begin your day. Additionally, the peace at night in the garden offers a wonderful conclusion to your day of adventures.
