Long Cruises On Newly Updated Prinsendam

by Ralph Grizzle

If sailing more than 100 days on a world cruise seems like too much to bite off, try a "voyage" instead. In 2009, Holland America Line will again offer three Grand Voyages. The newly updated Prinsendam charts two of those, sailing South America and Antarctica, and the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Both are round-trip from Fort Lauderdale. The 68-day South America voyage departs January 2 with segments of 11 to 57 days available. Prinsendam's 50-day Mediterranean and Black Sea voyage sails on March 11, 2009, and includes overnights in Barcelona and Istanbul. The two cruises may be combined for a 118-day odyssey, with additional savings available. Prinsendam was recently refurbished. Totaling more than $20 million, enhancements include new luxury bathrooms in all staterooms, the addition of the Explorations Café powered by the New York Times (pictured), expanded and refurbished shopping promenade, and new carpets and stone flooring. Prefer to sail a voyage from Seattle? From the Emerald City, Holland America Line's Amsterdam commences on a 67-day Grand Pacific, Australia & New Zealand voyage on September 26, 2009.
