On Oceania Cruises’ new Marina an unusual scene plays out. Bob Binder, the company’s president, and Frank del Rio, the founder of Oceania Cruises, are performing a job normally reserved for the ship’s carpenters. The cruise line tapped award-winning designer Susan Bednar Long of S.B. Long Interiors because of her keen familiarity with the Ralph Lauren esthetic. My stateroom on Oceania Marina is a Category A Concierge Level Veranda Stateroom. It measures 282 square feet and, as implied, features a veranda as well as a sitting area with sleeper sofa, large flat-panel television, marble bath with Bvlgari toiletries, tub – and shower with a rainforest showerhead.

Hapag-Lloyd is getting a sister. Europa 2 will offer a modern and casual luxury alternative to the existing Europa. Scheduled to being sailing in 2013, the new vessel will feature 258 staterooms, with a maximum passenger capacity of 516. You’ll need to use your imagination, as Oceania’s Marina is under construction in Genoa, Italy, but the panorama picture you’re looking at is of a soon-to-be-completed coffee bar overlooking the pool deck (click the photo to enlarge the image).
