I love Holland America line too. This love affair begun over 25 years ago on the famous Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam where once the HAL liners departed to New York. Together with my father we were attending the departure of the Stefan Batory on her voyage to Montreal. She was one time the Holland America Liner tss Maasdam of 1952. My father told me about the famous HAL liners. From that day onwards i was in love with De Lijn as we in Rotterdam called with great affection the Holland America Line. Started collecting cards, books, pictures, posters etc. etc.
Special was the day the Maasdam 5 made a call at Rotterdam after more then 20 years. HAL was back where they belonged. A big party on the docks and thousands came to see the Maasdam and waved goodbye when she departed.
Now the fleet have returned under the flag of the Netherlands and homeport of Rotterdam. My ties with HAL is stronger then ever. Was guest at the dedication of the Oosterdam, VIP aboard the Westerdam when she had her maiden call at home port Rotterdam and sailed the Zaandam to Alaska.
HAL and me both born and raised in Rotterdam the Netherlands. We will always be Rotterdammers.
This is why i love the Holland Amerika Lijn.
