Uniworld River Cruise Review: S.S. Antoinette
Tom Baumann, President of Cruise Specialists, recently attended the christening of Uniworld’s new 164-passenger S.S. Antoinette pierside in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
“The Antoinette is absolutely without a doubt the most incredible ship ever built for river cruising,” described Baumann. “If you are looking for an upscale river cruise and truly a ‘boutique’ experience, then you must try a Uniworld cruise. Not only is the ship absolutely incredible, but the service and food was fantastic! There is an infinity pool, a gym, spa treatment rooms, a movie theater, two lounges, two restaurants, a 24 hour specialty coffee and tea bar and more.”
According to Uniworld, the ship’s design was based on 18th century France in the 21st century as it embodies the spirit of France’s Château de Versailles with all of the conveniences of modern day living. The design of the ship began with the spectacular blue sapphire 10-foot Baccarat chandelier that adorns the Antoinette’s two-story lobby and once hung in New York’s famous Tavern on the Green restaurant.
The majority of the lavishly appointed staterooms on the Antoinette are 196 sq. ft. featuring open-air private balconies equipped with windows that can be raised or lowered with a touch of a button so that you are instantly “outside”. The staterooms also boast marble bathrooms with L’Occicitane en Provence bath and body
products, backlit magnifying mirrors, plush towels from Christys of England, and cozy waffle bathrobes. The Antoinette also offers eight suites at 294 sq ft. and an impressive royal suite at 391 sq. ft. featuring an entertainment system and flat-screen television with satellite and has a separate rain shower and tub in the bathroom.
Additional amenities on the Antoinette include free internet access available throughout the ship and complimentary fine wines and beer served at dinner each evening. One other fun perk: Complimentary state-of-the art bicycles available at your disposal so you can explore the quaint ports by bike.
Baumann encourages cruise enthusiasts to try a river cruise because he says it is a totally different experience than ocean cruising. “It’s like having your own personal yacht as you pull up to the river dock in the heart of a city and just jump off. There are no lines, no fuss and you’re immediately on your way to explore a new city. River cruising also lets you see the beautiful scenery and unique castles and landmarks unfold in front of you unlike any other way possible. You just can’t believe there is so much beauty to see all from the comfort of your cabin balcony or from one of the lounge areas on the ship.”
