Viking Expeditions

Fans of Viking River Cruises and Viking Ocean cruises have something new to celebrate: the launch of two new expedition ships. Viking Expeditions will begin sailing in January 2022 with its first vessel, Viking Octantis, exploring Antarctica and North America's Great Lakes. A second expedition vessel, Viking Polaris, will debut in August 2022, sailing to Antarctica and the Arctic. The 378-passenger ships will host an onboard team of resident scientists and a laboratory, which guests can visit to learn about research activities.

Viking expedition ships will feature advanced technology, including two six-guest submarines and a fleet of Zodiacs and Arctic-tested kayaks. The ships feature Viking's Scandinavian design, along with spacious and elegant staterooms and suites. Unique spaces include The Hangar, an in-ship marina that permits launching excursion craft in the most comfortable and stable environment possible; The Aula and Finse Terrace, an advanced venue for learning at sea that also includes floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor lounge area with warming lava rock "firepits;" the Nordic Balcony—a sunroom that converts into an al fresco viewing platform in all staterooms; and the Aquavit Terrace & Pools; a popular feature from Viking's other ships that is located at the stern and includes a retractable glass dome.
